Everyone involved in scouting is a volunteer, no one is paid. Yet there are so many different roles. Some people enjoy working with the young people, and complete our training scheme. Others want to support fundraising and day to day running of the group, and become a charity Trustee. Adults can have fun and adventure too.
We know many people don’t volunteer because of ‘lack of time’ but we have a range of roles that will work around your other commitments some roles require people for occasional help.
Some of the myths around volunteering in Scouting are:
Its only for boys!!
You have to work with young people
You need to know how to camp and know about the outdoors
None of the above are true. At Lord Mayors Own Scouting is for boys and girls, there are many jobs like administration, transport, cooking, DIY skills and many more that we always appreciate adult help with. Not all volunteers need to become section leaders.
